not the charity but responsibility: Street performers issue

I saw his performance around 20 minutes. after the show, I gave 1 dollor for donation, however Karen did nothing.
I've kept wondering how to educate people and the differnt point of view I hold.
as far as I'm concerned, 1 dollor means much. A bit of money, a lots of thoughs. The artist gave the audience so much imagination and laughters. "Took sth for free" somehow isn't that correct especially for asian ppl.
In fact, new yorkers are not cruel. They give money to needy persons and street performers. They talked to the strangers when they have to say something. ( for example. 050712, when I took
G train and fell asleep, a black guy told me how to sleep in the subway.)
