1. Caol Ila 10yo "Unpeated" (65.8%, OB, 2009)

C: light yellow

22 N: banana oil, lemon peelings, lime, cream, Boston pie, warm grass, some sea weed, a little hint of peat, then some peppers, spices

21 T: light, very good strength, a little salty and spicy, lime, lemon peels,甘油

20 F: short, sea weed, fresh grass, cream, cookie, some medicine and bitterness at the end

20 B: balanced, good texture, but few variant and complex at the end. It had better drink with some water

 

2. Port Askaig 25yo, 1984/2009 (45.8%, Speciality Drinks)

C: light yellow

20 N: some dirt, dash, grass, lightly tar, glycerin, fresh moss w/ hint of smoke, then some lime, white flowers

20 T: light, a little peaty, salty, smoky, cream, dirties, grass, few complexes, a little bitterness of grass at the end

20 F: medium, dirt, prune, nutmeg, almond, fresh cream

20 B: balanced, need to take some time to awake, but the body is too weak to drink

 

3. Caol Ila 25yo, 1981 (57.8%, DL McGibbon Provenance for John Milroy, Refill Hogshead #2204)

C: yellow

23 N: ALC, some cream, a little toffee, honey, orange peels, 陳皮, warm and sweet, then some smoke, pepper, fresh grass

22 T: medium, round and smooth, cream, toffee, honey, orange, tangerine juice, pepper, peat, good texture

21 F: medium -> long, orange peels, sea weed, peppery, some cocoa at the end

21 B: balanced both for N & T, more attractive from begin

 

4. Caol Ila 29yo, 1980/2009 (55.5%, Bladnoch, C#4937, 251 Bts.)

C: brown, amber

21 N: some over ripe fruits, cooked apple, 沉香, caramel, a little sour, plum, sulphurs, smoky wood cask

20 T: full, some medicine powder, bitterness, orange, syrup, good texture, 中藥, 蔘片at the end

21 F: medium, orange, plum, glycerin, sulphurs at the end

20 B: balanced, w/ some conflict

 

5. Caol Ila 25yo, 1978/2004 (59.4%, OB)

C: light yellow

21 N: vanilla, cream, fresh prune, then some sea weed, baled cookie, cheese, still grass, peat

21 T: full, good texture and strength, oil, salty, sea weed, grass, lemonade, peat sweet, w/ some liquorices

22 F: long, cream, vanilla, salty, grass, lemon juice, liquorices, more peat comes up after adding few drops of water, a little bitterness at the end

21 B: balanced, quite standard Coal Ila. +1 for the finish. I would choose this bot. stands for classical Caol Ila between the six ones.

 

6. Caol Ila 26yo, 1975/2001 (56.1%, Signatory, C#459, 242Bts.)

C: light yellow

22 N: glycerin, banana oil, some cream, baked cookie, lightly peat

23 T: full, a little salty, grass, oil, smoky, peat sweet, lemon peels, spices, very good texture and strength

22 F: long, fresh grass, lime, lemon peels, apple peels, Oliver oil, cheddar cheese, lightly peat

22 B: good balanced, old Ardbeg? Quite interesting! And also my favorite

Very very similar to Ardbeg 1972/2001 29yo OMC 432Bts, and also Ardbeg 1966/1999 42.8% Cadenhead 150Bts. But more peaty for Ardebg. I guess it just had the wrong label! Ha~

1.Caol Ila 1994/2009 (45%, G&M "Private Collection", Tokaji Finish, C#04/161 4,5,6, 492 Bts.)

C: deep amber

15 N: sulphurs, bad eggs, sour milk, over ripe fruit, bad fruit, 蛋白

2 T: medium, sherry

2.Caol Ila 1996/2008 Muscatel Finish Distillery Edition 43% OB

C: light amber

21 N: beautiful sherry, warm and light smoke, fresh red berry, honey apple, then some orange, tangerine peels, citrus, fruity with some hint of sea wind

21 T: light, smoky baked fruits, very smoky in the mouth, some sea weed, a little salty, orange, beautiful wood cask, tenderness, the palate is more similar to Lagv.

21 F: short -> medium, smoky fruits, orange peels, sea wind, a little peppers, coffee bean, more impact at the end on the middle of tongue

21 B: good balanced, very easy to drink, a young but tender bottle. It worths to treat your mouth for another shot!
