I did my TA on Tuesday night. I was assigned to do an ice-breaker activity with the learners during the first five minutes of the next three lessons. I don`t worry about that too much because there are plenty of ideas I can use or modify from Sarah`s lessons!
I was surprised that there was no “English conversation” going on at all in the class. The teacher read the article, explained the word/phases and played the CD to the learners. However, she didn`t elicit them to speak English. They discussed and chatted about the content of the book in Chinese all the time. Sometimes they chatted about their personal things unrelated to the lesson. I have a feeling that they have a very close relationship, but I worry about how their English speaking skills are going to progress. (I don`t want to mention my teacher`s name here. I don`t mean to criticize her.)
