Control the wild horses of the mind.




To calm down a busy mind when you are having difficulty relaxing or drifting off to sleep, it helps to come back to your senses to distract yourself from all the "should, ought, must" noise in your head.

Sit or lie somewhere comfortable, and take a few deep breaths. Take a moment to notice how your body feels in the chair, and relax a bit more with each out breath.

Next, focus on something ahead of you, notice it, then close your eyes and remember it for a moment. Look again and notice a couple of things in your peripheral vision; then again close your eyes and remember them. Next, notice what you can hear and what you can feel your body is in contact with. Take your time, and let yourself slow down; no judgment is allowed!

You can repeat this sequence a couple more times, until you feel more peaceful, in a relaxed state, and able to control the wild horses of the mind.
