● The film is based on the story by Russian writer Anton Chekhov.

Sergei Kamyshev, a successful investigator, on a visit to his friend, Count Korneyev, met 16-year-old Olenka. All the neighborhood men are mad about her. Quite unexpectedly, they learn that the girl is going to marry an old estate manager, Urbenin. But on her wedding day she confesses to Kamyshev that she loves him alone… Their love affair will be interrupted by a sudden shot made at the hunting…
