This week as I traveled from our offices in Wilmington, Delaware to my home and area office in Aurora, CO, I'd an opportunity to get the number 1 Bestseller, a great business book that's sold more than 2 million copies, Good to Great by Jim Collins.

The book is all about how to change an excellent organization or business in to one that produces sustained good benefits.

Your home based business could be doing pretty good, but are you just satisfied with just being good, or do you have the desire to move your home business to the rarefied air of success?

I would have made this book required to my management team, if I was still a Corporate Weenie.

I'm certain that in Corporate America this book has been a topic of furious debate along mahogany row, since the leadership attempts to determine whether the books instead questionable viewpoints should be applied to a business that from most indicators does very well both from a leadership and financial viewpoint. The book could explain this company as merely a good company, not necessarily a great one.

What about your organization? You mightn't even think you've an excellent business. Well, in that case, you might be able to go directly to wonder and go the good period as you apply the principles in Jim Collins book.

The book indicates that there are common denominators that are connected with his definition of good companies. In the absence of these popular denominators, a business might be excellent in most measurable factors, but never rise to the books definition of achievement.

The author and his excellent research group conducted radical, academically sound research in creating its criteria for success. An extremely strict criterion that led to a somewhat unexpected and selective number of organizations that met the very strict conditions. You would be very surprised I do believe by people who did not, and the companies that made the list.

As I continue to see this novel I considered the home based business industry and my very own personal entrepreneurial attempts with Tiger Trade, LLC. I thought of some of the a few ideas the book offered and how I can apply them to my business interests and change from just being a good home-based business, into a good one.

Here is a list of the concepts and ideas derived from the book that I've made a decision to follow to take my businesses to another levela level of success.

Be considered a Level 5 Leader- The businesses that went from good to great did not have the professionally powerful, gregarious management you might expect to get. Companies that went from good to great all included leadership who'd a leadership kind of the professional and personal humility will to complete what-ever was required to create a great business, even when it impacted them economically. Its perhaps not about you; its about the business.

First Who, then What- Good to great leaders did not develop great businesses by making a new dramatic vision or strategy. The things they did was to get the best people on-board and the wrong people off-loaded. They flipped the script to the concept that Folks are your most important asset. That's wrong. The best individuals are your most important property. Surround your self with the proper people.

Address the Brutal Facts (Yet never shed faith )- Every good to great business embraced what is called the Stockdale Paradox. This paradox was produced from the former prisoner of war Admiral Stockdale. The concept suggests that you must maintain unwavering belief that you may prevail ultimately, regardless of the difficulties, AND at-the sam-e time have the discipline to address the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be. Try this in your organization and your life so that you can be good.

Use the Hedgehog Concept- Will not you should be capable. Transcend the problem of only being capable, even though it is your core business area. Uncover what you can probably be the best at, and then as time passes pursue that, even at the expense of limiting anything you may have done for years, but can never be the best at. Only what you can be the most effective at can function as core of a good company.

A Culture of Discipline- In my business we will simply not be disciplined, but our business will have a tradition of control. When you mix a tradition of control, with an ethic of entrepreneurship, you have the marvelous alchemy of great performance.

Technology Accelerators- Don't rely on technology to ignite a transformation in the business, but use watchfully selected technologies with the knowledge that it will not be the primary reason for the businesses greatness or decline.

The Flywheel and the Doom Loop- There's not one determining activity or grand event that turns a business from good to great. There has to be a combination of numerous actions over time. The method is like driving a flywheel in a single direction, turn upon turn, building momentum, until a place of development and beyond.

These are some extraordinary ideas on the best way to change your great home based business in to a great home based business. A small business which will be sustained for many years to come. A great home based business that will continue being a tool for you personally and your children, and even your childrens children. The Bible says that the good man leaves a heritage for his childrens children. That's long lasting success and possibilities that success returns.

Get book to Jim Collins. Read it over and over until the axioms in the book become believable for you. Recognize it, then confidently implement the principles in the book not just in , but also in your business.
