Dogville
A provocative movie dat made me sad in the middle of it, so sad dat I could hardly finish my dinner @ the "change-disc-break"; yet thanks to the special ending dat it lessened my sadness, and directed me into deep pondering. Needed some time to think back the plot when I was on bed after watching. It took me some time to really calm down from it.
Itz about a girl, named Grace, who wanted to escape from her life in a big city, and without any destination in her head, she went to a small small town in the hope that she could get rid of any troubles she had in her pervious "life". Itz a movie about her experience in settling down in this small small town called Dogville. N with all those things happened on her, poor her, she had many of her perceptions changed.
Punishment or mercy, which should be given when someone harms you? sometimes, like Grace, I give mercy on ppl with the thought dat the wrong deeds they do are juz part of the human nature, dat they are driven to do dat without being conscious abt ugliness of them.
True dat human has its nature, yet they r not born with this very nature, they learn it, sociologically speaking, and they interpret with one's own consciousness and wisdom. That's the counsciousness that distinguish human from all kinds of living beings. N so, they should not be exempted from punishment with the mere reason of "datz human nature" when they do sth wrong. Rite, itz punishment, itz sometimes useful in awakening human being.
Another lessonz abt power. Powerz always interpreted negatively, as itz like a tool to control over sb. I used to hate the idea of power as well, cos it creates unfairness between those who has n those who dun. Yet, the movie teaches me another way of viewing the issue. Itz a matter of how u use the power. If u gonna use it properly, itz for the sake of the good order of every community. If therez no power, there wont be any order. Sociology used to teach me, that everything exists for a reason n nth is to be taken for granted. Dat very thought influenced me a lot, n created me a rebellious view of "social order" --itz invented by ppl in power to hold control over those under priviledge; n the question follows : "y there should be order? y cant ppl be free in the world? but to follow orders dat most of the ppl have no say at all in their making?"
This question has always kept in my mind, upseting me sometimes. Yet this movie clears my mind from those puzzles. Power is needed n so is order. If therez no order, ppl will juz do everything according to their wishes, without realising their wrongs. They juz keep doing n doing. Sb like Grace may well forgives them; but for sb like gangs, they would have been killed. Moreover, the mercy that Grace gave may further spoil them, which makes them more immerse into their wrong deeds...dat may eventually leads to their death.
What upsets me abt the movie is the role of female plays in the society. Female, is a sex object in the society. Always n still. Female is judged n valued by her physical appearance. Sometimes it provides convenience, which is quite true i guess, while sometimes it implies danger. Male, a creature that is so sex driven, always have a feeling that they r dominant, esp sexually. They take advantage on female sexually too easily due to female's physical inferiority. Goosh....cant really help dat.....itz inborn after all....so sad....cant really accept that male defends their ridiculous desires on female with the reason of "male nature". The arguement is the same as the human nature thing. So u mean male has male nature so u can do wutever on female? bullshit. Again, male cant be exempted from punishment with that non-sense reason.
women...gotta be strong......
therez a lot more lessons from the movie....for instance the "give-n-take" relation. To give is to take? y? Y when ppl take more than usual, they feel more secured to give? y cant we juz offer "give" without asking for "take"? Be simple, ppl.
Good acting of Nicole Kidman, good idea of the stage set-up, good planning of the plot, good way of shooting, good ideas of director, n good inspirationsssssss, the most important of all.
