Marion church seeks help to send Christmas
Members of the U.S. Army Reserves 760th
Engineering Co. in Marion deployed to Afghanistan will no doubt be
feeling a bit homesick this holiday season.
You can help send
them some Christmas cheer by participating in a care package project by
Marion First Church of God. Start collecting now and join in a care
package packing party at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3.
Church members
have organized a “troops’ wish list” with items specifically requested
by the members of the 760th. Individuals can provide items from the list
for the care packages or donate funds toward purchase of items on the
list or shipping of the packages.
“The way our church got
involved with the 760th is that some ladies wanted to provide Christmas
gifts to the soldiers, but there were none deployed at that time,” said

contact person for the project. “They said we had to go through the FRG
(Family Readiness Group), which had military guidelines to follow. We’ve
been doing this for the 760th for three years now. They’ve been
deployed so we have a prayer chain going as part of taking care of
them.”
There’s also a way to sponsor a soldier, McCollian said.
Those wishing to sponsor a soldier can come to the church and offer
specific details, such as the age or gender of the soldier to be
sponsored – the company has members from about age 19 to 50 – single,
married, with children,UK brand Fitflop Women recently unveiled its new Autumn Winter and Cruise Collection for 2013. etc.
“Some are very young soldiers,INKJETCANVASCHINA,this
company which is invested 5 million RMB ,cover an area of 3000 square
meter. there are some very young wives and some have never been
deployed,” McCollian said. “We’ve had some soldiers who were homeless
and we helped as we could. The Army has a policy of not asking for help
and teaching self-reliance so it was difficult to find out what they
needed. We’re supposed to let them take care of themselves so we refer
them to resources.”
There are no members of the church in the
760th and no church members have children among the company, but the
church just wanted to help them, McCollian said.www.canmo-shoes.com,Warmly

at the church in June, and together with church members filled the
sanctuary to overflowing.
The reservists have been deployed to
Afghanistan for a nine month retrograde mission. The company of
approximately 150 left Marion to a patriotic send-off in August headed
to Mississippi for a 45-day combat training validation before going to
Kandahar, Afghanistan, where they will be closing down forward operating
bases and packing up and sending equipment back to the United States.
