Okla. man finds 4.23-carat diamond

NOWATA, Okla. (UPI) -- An Oklahoma man says he may have found a 4.21-carat diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Ark., but his wife has claimed ownership.

Marvin Culver of Nowata, his wife and their niece and nephew headed for the state park during the weekend after seeing a travelogue on the Travel Channel. His find was the largest at the park in six years, The Oklahoman reported.

”My wife has already claimed it. I’m just borrowing it, is all,” Culver told the newspaper.

Some 75,000 diamonds have been found at the park since 1906. The largest weighed 40.23 carats and was dubbed ”Uncle Sam.” Two 15-carat diamonds also have been found.

Culver estimates his yellow diamond is worth $3,000 to $5,000.
