It was just out of pure curiosity, my roommate Amy asked a question to a Caucasian sitting next to her in tonight's class. "HOW OLD ARE YOU?"

It came out two interpretations.
1) hey this gorgeous Asian lady seems to want to know more about me.
2) this is offensive, do i look old at my age???:@

I got him an answer on the way to the parking lot, "neither", yet we (Amy and I) were just betting about his age. From the base guess of age 25 topped with lines around his eyes, I would say he is about 30.

Anyway, a pure curiosity has put me in this position quite a few times. Rob from my other class never would tell me his age, even though we get along pretty good and talk a lot. I just thought he was being sissy!! Come on, what's the deal of hiding your age? it's simply a straighforward question.

Now i realized, Americans consider such questions too personal to tell, questions as how old, how tall, how many kids, how much $$, and so on, yet they don't mind telling how often they make love.

Culture difference results in difference in perception, reflecting in so many ways. For examples, giving compliment. Well i'm pretty comfortable of being flattered, but most Chinese are still very shy to accept a nice compliment.
