You've Got Mail

Department mailboxes are right outside of my office. I can hear when the workstudy open mailboxes and distributes mails; I can hear people open their mailboxes and pull out bunch of mails. I guess just like what happen in our home mailbox, most of the time we receive promotions, flyers, magazines, and bills.

Pretty boring isn’t it? Pretty time-consuming as well, think of the time we spend opening up the envelope and tearing apart personal information on it.

But, still, most of the people check their mailbox first thing in the morning. They may check it sometime in the middle of the day. Even they know there can only be promotions, flyers, magazines, and bills inside.

I guess we are expecting a surprise.

We expect, one day while opening the mailbox, to see a mail saying “congratulations! You’ve won a million dolors. ”

We expect to see familiar hand writing from an unfamiliar address. An old friend whom we thought we’ve lost contact with tells us that she is well and healthy.

There are few surprises these days. When email is only a click away, when we delete junk mails without second thoughts, we still have a little dream. Though we know it’s probably not going to happen, we still expect. Have this unspoken hope every time opening the mailbox.
