After Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen stifled the Yankees on four hits Tuesday night, Derek Jeter was asked if the 26-year-old Taiwanese rookie was better this time than the last time the Yankees faced him -- on April 10, when he allowed four runs in 5-2/3 innings.

"That's so long ago I really don't remember,'' said Jeter.

Reminded that he led off that game with a home run against Chen, Jeter shrugged. "Oh, really?,'' he said. "Well, evidently he's been pitching pretty well against everyone, so tonight wasn't a surprise. But I really couldn't say if he was better this time than last time.''

When you're hitting as well as Jeter is so far this season -- he is hitting .366 after going 1-for-3 tonight -- it's easy to forget something as commonplace as a home riun off a pitcher who has only allowed three so far this year.

"He knows what he's doing,'' said Jeter.
