沉默的代價
這是鐫刻在美國波士頓「猶太人屠殺紀念碑上」上的，德國新教牧師馬丁·尼莫拉 Martin Niemöller (1892-1984) 的懺悔詩。尼莫拉曾是納粹的受害者，他在晚年為自己當年的道德污點寫下懺悔詩。
我沒有說話———因為我不是共產主義者；
接著他們追殺猶太人，
我沒有說話———因為我不是猶太人；
後來他們追殺工會成員，
我沒有說話———因為我不是工會成員；
此後他們追殺天主教徒，
我沒有說話———因為我是新教教徒；
最後他們奔向我來，
卻再也沒有人站出來為我說話。
First they came for the socialists
and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak for me.
