《聖經》在不同的章節一再提到“眼中的瞳仁”（apple of the eye），必有其奧秘，將各處參照來看，時而如纏綿合一，時而莊嚴謹慎，時而哀怨甚至時而肅殺，頗能反映一段關係的多個層面。舊約時期的人（在犯罪逐出樂園之後）和神之間可以親密如此。九把刀電影《那些年，我們一起追過的女孩》取用這個典故作英文戯名“you are the apple of my eye”，其用意不言而喻。“錯失的初戀”是電影中常見的題材，舉凡馬來西亞《初戀紅豆冰》、日本《情書》、意大利《新天堂樂園》，甚至推溯到法國《追憶逝水年華》，其故事原型大抵就是“失樂園”（lost paradise）——講的是一種“錯誤的時間”：錯失、錯過、錯誤的決定。這種題材的極致固然凄美，但常常美化人的原罪——讓人一個不小心，就寧願永遠陷溺其中。
