英國的迷幻搖滾樂團The Zombies ( 殭屍合唱團 ) 在美國共有三首暢銷曲，此首1965的《Tell Her No》即為其中之一，在告示牌百大單曲奪得第6名 ( 另兩首為《She's Not There》 / 1964 / No.2、《Time of the Season》 / 1969 / No.3 ) ，有點奇怪的是，此曲在英國的成績未盡人意，只在單曲榜獲得第42名。

有樂評家認為此首歌斷斷續續的節奏和複節奏使其成為爵士融合樂的先驅。全音 ( All Music ) 的樂評稱 : 古怪的樂器聲貫穿始終，聽起來幾乎有些要走調了，隨後卻出人意料地過渡到略帶巴洛克風格 ( 註 ) 的副歌部分，並讚揚此曲朗朗上口的旋律、緊湊的編曲和富有創意的創新。總之，各方佳評不斷。 有趣的是，有人算過，歌詞中的「No」共出現了63次。

註 : 巴洛克音樂的特點是極盡奢華，加入大量裝飾性的音符，節奏強烈、短促而律動，旋律精緻。

1969，美國搖滾樂團Smith在加州的夜總會，被知名的搖滾歌手Del Shannon發掘，並引薦至唱片公司發行了首張專輯《A Group Called Smith》，其中包含翻唱了此曲，唯經大幅的編修，並改以女性敘述，將歌名改為《Tell Him No》。專輯中另翻唱黑人女子合唱團體The Shirelles於1961發行的歌曲《Baby It's You 》( The Beatles在1963也翻唱過 )，經Del Shannon的重新編曲，該曲獲得告示牌熱門100排行榜的第5名，Smith樂團及主唱Gayle McCormick也因而紅極一時。
