1974，美國創作歌手John Denver發行了一張專輯《Back Home Again》，在告示牌200強及鄉村專輯榜均奪得榜首，其中與專輯同名另釋出的此首單曲，亦拿下鄉村單曲榜的冠軍 ( 於流行榜則為第5名 )，也為Denver的第一首鄉村冠軍曲。

此曲贏得了CMA ( 鄉村音樂協會 ) 1975的「年度最佳歌曲」獎，也同時獲得了「年度最佳藝人」獎。在頒獎典禮上，頒發年度最佳藝人獎的是去年的得主---鄉村流行歌手Charlie Rich ( 其最知名的歌曲應為《The Most Beautiful Girl》)，此位老兄有酗酒的毛病，當天醉醺醺地上台，結結巴巴地唸完提名名單，笨拙地撕開獲獎者的信封後，竟然掏出打火機將信封燒了，然後宣布獲獎者是：My friend Mr. John Denver。有人認為，這是對Nashville音樂圈主導著「Nashville Sound」 的不滿反擊。也有人認為，這是Rich對Denver獲獎的抗議，因為Rich認為Denver的音樂「太流行，不夠鄉村」。包括業內人士在內的許多人對Rich的行為感到憤怒，Rich的人氣也因此一落千丈。後來，Rich的兒子替父親辯護，說Rich當時在酒精作祟下或許覺得有趣而如此做。
