此首《'Til a Tear Becomes a Rose》最早是由美國鄉村音樂藝人Leon Everette於1985錄製發行，在鄉村榜最高排名第44。

之後此曲由鄉村音樂夫妻檔Keith Whitley與Lorrie Morgan翻唱，唯尚未及發行，Whitley因急性酒精中毒意外身亡，僅享年34歲。Whitley死後一年(1990)，唱片公司發行了他的精選專輯《Greatest Hits》，此曲收錄其中，單曲在鄉村榜達到第13名，也獲得1991葛萊美「最佳合唱獎」的提名，惜未獲獎。

Whitley過世後的第2天，納許維爾的音樂街 ( Music Row ) 兩旁掛滿了黑絲帶，以示悼念。他被安葬在納許維爾郊外的Spring Hill ( 春山公墓 )，墓碑上第一行寫著Forever Yours Faithfully ( 永遠忠誠的愛你 )，第二行則是His Being Was My Reason ( 他的存在就是我的理由 )。
