此曲最早是由藍調歌手Tampa Red於1940錄製。1949，Tampa又錄製了此曲的變奏版，名為《When Things Go Wrong with You》，除了加入電吉他，並採用了更現代化的編曲，歌詞也有所不同，唯仍保留了「When things go wrong，so wrong with You，it hurts me too」，結果一炮而紅，登上了告示牌節奏藍調排行榜的第9名，而原版的《It Hurts Me Too》發行於告示牌成立之前，故很難判斷哪個版本更受歡迎。

1957，藍調歌手音樂人Elmore James為Chief唱片公司錄製此曲，雖未能打進排行榜，卻貢獻了一些迄今最廣為人知的歌詞 : You say you hurting, You almost lost your mind, The man you love, he hurts all the time, When things go wrong, go wrong with you, It hurts me too。1962或1963稍早，Elmore James又為另家唱片公司錄製此曲，沿用了之前版本的歌詞，而滑音吉他則更為突出，該版本在1965他死後的2年才發行 ( Elmore James於1963/ 05過世，享年45歲  )，在熱門節奏藍調單曲榜獲得第25名。之後許多翻唱者都受到James的版本的影響，無論是在歌詞或是吉他的部分。以下所貼號稱「吉他之神」  的英國男歌手Eric Clapton及美國藍調女歌Angela Strehli的演譯，均為參照了James的版本。

歌曲滿有意思的，講的是三角的愛情關係，當你愛的人與第三者之間有了狀況時，你也跟著受了傷。其實，看來歌曲的主角才是第三者局外人，自作多情的看別人吃包子在喊燒。
