Lindy Blaskey，是ABC唱片公司的音樂出版商，見到Daniel Moore所寫的此首《My Maria》，認為甚具暢銷曲的潛力，但遲遲未能完成全部歌詞，於是Blaskey將之交給也是歌手兼詞曲作者的B.W. Stevenson來補填，完成後Stevenson的唱片製作人也認同之前Blaskey對此曲的看法。1973，B.W. Stevenson發行了《My Maria》的單曲，果如所料，此曲登上了告示牌流行榜的第9名，也在當代成人音樂排行榜榮登榜首一週。

1996，鄉村二人組合Brooks & Dunn翻唱了此首《My Maria》，他們的版本，除了在告示牌鄉村榜奪得冠軍，也替他們贏得了第二座「最佳鄉村演唱組合」的葛萊美獎。同年稍晚，Dunn在接受採訪時表示，其實在最初他不願錄製此曲，因為他們之前從未翻唱過任何歌曲。Brooks & Dunn前後共發行過50首單曲，其中20首登上鄉村榜的榜首，另19首也名列前10，在鄉村音樂的成績十分亮眼。
