此曲為有「工人皇帝」之稱的美國搖滾歌手Bruce Springsteen所創作，並於1979自行錄唱，當時正值其專輯《The River》的錄製期間，但此曲並未收錄於該專輯中，直至2003及2015才分別收錄在「精選集」與「套裝專輯」中。

June 1981，威爾斯歌手Dave Edmunds與替他弄到門票的DJ朋友在倫敦溫布利球場看Bruce Springsteen的演唱會 ( 之前Edmunds與Springsteen完全不相識 )，當演唱會結束後，Edmunds與朋友在後台聊天，正想著弄點甚麼飲料來喝......此時，有位工作人員在背後拍了他的肩膀，朋友說 : 他是你的粉絲，快去見他吧。Edmunds就被帶到化妝休息室去見了Springsteen，也就在這次會面，Springsteen答應將此曲送給Edmunds，並不久後在紐約的公司實際交付了此曲的卡帶。

1982，Dave Edmunds發行了他的專輯《DE 7th》，其中包含了此曲，另釋出的單曲在告示牌搖滾排行榜獲得第28名。美國PopMatters雜誌稱Edmunds的版本「勁道十足」，是其最佳作品的極佳範例。Edmunds自己也認為這首歌非常地適合他。

歌名翻譯是「從小事做起 ( 總有一天會成就大事 )」。從正面來看，腳踏實地的從小事做起，慢慢地總是會有機會成就一番大事業。但從此曲所敘述的故事，感覺像是負面教材，從16歲輟學就業 →與帥哥買房同居 → 拋家私奔 → 開槍打死人  → 進牢房。由犯小錯開始變得越來越大膽終至殺人坐牢，令人不勝唏噓。唯一可取的是寫信告知媽媽生活現況，總是報喜不報憂，保持了樂觀和希望。
