It is now possible to identify four main types of information
professionals: creators, collectors, communicators and consolidators.
Creators are the people who develop and produce information products and services - usually exploiting the intellectual property that has been originated by someone else. Collectors are the people who build up, maintain and encourage the use of collections of information like libraries and archives. Communicators are the professionals who provide a direct information and advice service to other people. Finally, consolidators are the people who work within organizations collecting, analyzing and synthesizing information in response to specific demands in order to help others make sense of the world.
