有些人可以每天做夢，但我極少做夢；不過，對於母親的思念，因為...
沒有見到她最後一面，一直耿耿於懷，也因此我懷著希望，能夠...
有一天, 在夢裡與她相見。
最近，我真的夢到她...
介紹這首歌的起因是朋友聽我告訴他有關我夢見母親的欣喜轉而憂傷與哭泣，然後他便談起這首歌，希望藉著它能夠安撫我對母親的思念。
在夢裡，由遠而近，慢慢走向她病床，挨近她時，我說：「媽，我回來了！」她目視著我，我們眼角都含著淚，然後她喚我靠近，瞬間，我像變回嬰孩似的躺在她懷裡，可是不多時... 她的手一下子變成冷的，我已經知道這夢為何終於讓我夢見她... 她出現在我夢裡是來安慰我的，我的朋友這麼說。

在1865年以前，美國發現大陸，也帶進一批非洲奴隸，他們的孩子從小就必須與父母分離, 出去外地做工，他們只允許有聚會在教會裡，因此很多黑人靈歌是這樣產生的。

一般在音樂劇中，我們最常聽到男中音或男高音，男低音很罕見。
以我的年紀對這音樂劇感到有點陌生，但是早一點的年代的愛樂者對它
非常難忘。這是一首在1927年, 音樂劇- 演藝船(Showboat) 節目中最有名
的歌曲。這故事講述了密西西比河一個碼頭工人- 喬(Joe)帶著憂鬱的美國
黑人的苦難掙扎。
至今不少版本流傳在市面，有興趣的朋友可以在Youtube搜尋:
﹝Showboart 1936﹞是黑白的或比較新的﹝Showboat 1951﹞是彩色的。
