The son of Mike Tracy of Beavercreek and Joylynn Brown of Dayton selected the undertaking for his confirmation project after his mother heard about Shoes4TheShoeless, a faith-based organization that gives new gym shoes to Dayton area children in desperate need. 

“This past spring my mom and I met with Kris Horlacher, the founder of Shoes4TheShoeless and she explained her mission to us. We volunteered for three shoe deliveries during the summer,” said Mattaus, who didn’t have time during school to volunteer.

Noting that he has “always been fortunate enough to have shoes and other necessities,” Mattaus admits that volunteering for the shoe drives last summer was an eye-opening experience.

Two project highlights for Mattaus has been kicking off the project by buying the first two pair of shoes with his own money and the Oct. 15 purchase of the 100th pair of shoes.
