Put on your walking shoes Street Faire

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce expects 50 to 60 vendors selling everything from purses and jewelry to toys and sunglasses in what has become a Los Banos tradition.

"If we had 60 or 100 vendors, would that make it successful? Not necessarily so, because you can't quantify that and say that makes it successful. If we have the turnout, it would make it successful," said Jerry Knoester, the chamber's interim executive director.

The Street Faire typically attracts between 2,000 and 3,000 people to downtown. The chamber usually has more than 100 booths. Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant Mercedes Menchaca said the number of vendors as of Wednesday included 27 people selling arts and crafts and five food vendors.stainless steel necklaces wholesale She said she had at least a dozen more applications on her desk waiting to be processed.

Most of the vendors have participated before, Menchaca said. She said the Los Banos Chamber of Commerce's Fall Downtown Street Faire gets repeat participation because booth space is priced lower than at similar fairs.

Los Banos people attend the fair as a way to meet up with friends they haven't seen in awhile, have a family outing or pick up a specialty item they haven't been able to find elsewhere.

Knoester said before he was interim director, he'd go to the fair in pursuit of specialty items.
